Antigo businesses lending a hand to Kentucky tornado victims – WAOW

ANTIGO, Wis. (WAOW) — It might be a more than ten-hour drive from Langlade County to southwestern Kentucky, but one family in Antigo wants to lend a hand to those affected by the recent tragedy down there.
“How can you not watch some of that footage and not be moved? That one town especially, is just gone,” Terry Robertson said.
She and Kyle Robertson are co-owners of Robertson Hot Shots, LLC, a small trucking company currently in its offseason.
Just months ago, they drove down to Louisiana with donated food and water in the wake of Hurricane Ida to help that community out.
“When they saw and found out what we were doing, they were like, ‘Wow, thank you,'” Kyle said.
Now, after the devastation in Kentucky, they’re looking to do something similar; raising donations of nonperishable food and bottled water to be delivered in person.
Some partners that helped them before, like Lakeside Market, have already jumped in to help.
“They obviously have a very great need and we’re jumping on the idea to go help gather some supplies and water, particularly, to send along,” Lakeside Market owner Pat Frey said.
That business has signage everywhere expressing the need the Robertsons are looking to fill.
“This tornado came completely out of season. Need knows no season,” Terry said.
“This is a very serious matter, particularly during the Christmas season,” Frey added.
As for the Robertsons, they say they’re doing this out of a want to help people, regardless of how they’re able to do it.
“We’re all family in this world. We’re all just waiting to meet each other at the end, and these people need help right now,” Kyle said. “Over 200 miles of Kentucky is just gone, and how can you not help out with that?”
They’re accepting donations centered around simply getting to Kentucky as well as the food and water.
They plan to leave shortly after Christmas.
As of Monday, Lakeside Market, Little Wolf Express Lube, Antigo Community Church, and Volks Auto have donation spots set up.
