Defending champions India’s dream of a second consecutive FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup title was shattered on Friday as six-time winners Germany defeated the hosts 2-4. Germany will meet Argentina in the summit clash of the premier tournament. The Indians, who last won the Junior World Cup title in Lucknow in 2016, looked a pale shadow of themselves against Germany.

Germany outclassed India in almost all departments to secure a final date with Argentina on Sunday. India pulled one back in the final minute of the contest, but it was too little too late for the defending champions. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, Germany scored three quick goals in the second, in which India managed to score just one. A 1-4 trail at the halftime break was too much for the hosts India, who tried hard in the final 30 minutes but came up with just one goal in the 60th minute. India will now face France in the third-place playoff.
