New Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has given his first impressions about Cristiano Ronaldo amid concerns about his role under the tactician

The German begins his reign as the Red Devils’ new boss on a short-term basis having taken over from now-departed caretaker coach Michael Carrick.

Ronaldo was the hero in United’s 3-2 Premier League win over Arsenal on Thursday night, bagging a brace against the Gunners, including the winner from the penalty spot.
However, before the 63-year-old’s arrival, the Portuguese star’s place in the team was under the microscope as questions arose about his playing style and whether or not he would be able to adapt to the “gegenpress” philosophy the former RB Leipzig boss would bring.
In his first press conference as United manager, Rangnick explained his immediate vision for the club and alluded to Ronaldo, who has been a major topic of speculation over his role in a pressing team.

“You always have to adapt your style to fit the players,” Rangnick said when asked if he will adapt to the Portugal international’s game.
“He is an amazing, top professional. At his age, I have not seen a player who is still that physically fit.
“It’s about how we can develop the whole team, not just Cristiano.
“We play in the most competitive league in the world. All his teammates will have to do the same.”
Rangnick also revealed that Chelsea offered him a four-month contract earlier this year, but he turned it down.
“At the time, when Chelsea contacted me, they only spoke about the possibility of four months and no prospective of further than that,” he explained
“Here, we are talking about six and a half months and a two-year advisory role.
“If a club like Manchester United contacts you, you cannot possibly turn it down.”
